What this is

Game Swap Jam is an Agentic Engineering jam by draht uni (https://uni.draht.dev).

Teams of 2–3 build a small browser game with AI coding agents. The theme is your choice, within our community guidelines. Every team starts from the same template, which already brings the game loop, input, drawing and sound. You write the game logic.

At half-time, every team hands its repo to another team. The receiving team, with their own agents, carries that game forward. At the end, every game is playable on the jam page, demos run, and everyone votes.

The swap is the point: it tests whether your README, AGENTS.md and HANDOFF.md are good enough for a stranger's agent to pick up your work.

Who it's for

  • Developers who already use AI coding agents (any tool) or want to try them on a real project
  • People who like small games. No game dev experience needed
  • Solo sign-ups welcome, we form teams at kickoff

What to bring

  • A laptop with git and your agent setup of choice
  • A GitHub account
  • A headset/mic for team voice

Schedule (CET)

14:00Kickoff: the template, the rules, the guidelines, team forming
14:20Build phase 1
15:50Handoff: write HANDOFF.md, push, freeze
16:00Swap: every team gets another team's repo
16:10Build phase 2: carry the game forward
17:25Demos (2–3 min per team)
17:45Voting and results
18:00End

How the swap works

  • Every team repo is public in the draht-dev GitHub org, MIT licensed, created from the same template with README, AGENTS.md, HANDOFF.md and a credits file.
  • At 15:50 you write your handoff and push. No more commits after the freeze.
  • At 16:00 a rotation (team 1 to 2, 2 to 3, ..., last to 1) assigns you a repo. You continue in it.
  • You may not hand-explain your project to the next team. Only the repo speaks.

The gate

Every repo has the same CI check. A game passes when it builds as a static site, its tests are green, it loads in a headless browser without errors, and it reacts to input. The CI result is recorded for every repo at 17:25.

Where the games live

Every repo deploys its game to GitHub Pages. All games are playable on the jam page on uni.draht.dev, embedded from github.io. Every game credits everyone who built it, with their links.

How voting works

  • Every participant gets one vote per category: "best handoff" and "best rescue" (most progress in phase 2). You can't vote for your own team in either role.
  • Ties stay ties. No prizes, this is for fun and learning.

Community guidelines

Game Swap Jam is open to everyone. Your game will be public, playable on uni.draht.dev, and picked up by another team at half-time. Please build something you're happy for anyone to play and continue.

Your game must not contain:

  • Gore or graphic violence
  • Glorification of violence
  • Hate, harassment or discrimination against any person or group
  • Sexual content
  • Characters, music, art or other assets you don't own. Use only your own work or freely licensed assets, and name the source and license in the credits file

How we work together:

  • Be kind in chat, voice and in your repo. Comments, commit messages and HANDOFF.md are read by the next team
  • The swap is the point. When you get another team's repo, build on it, don't throw it away
  • Everyone who worked on a game is named in its credits, with their links
  • Only share your own personal data. Don't put other people's data into a game or repo
  • Nobody is shown on stream or in a recording without consent

What happens if a game breaks these guidelines: it is not embedded on the jam page and not shown in demos. The organizer decides. If someone behaves badly in chat or voice, they can be removed from the jam.

Questions or a concern during the jam: ask in the draht.dev Discord.

FAQ

Do I need game dev experience? No. The template handles the engine parts, you and your agents write the game logic.

Can I pick any theme? Yes, within the community guidelines.

Which AI agent can I use? Any. Mixing tools across teams is part of the fun.

Can I use assets from somewhere else? Only your own or freely licensed ones, with the source named.

Will it be recorded? Nobody is shown on stream or in a recording without consent.

What happens to the code? Every repo stays public in draht-dev under the MIT license, and the game stays playable on the jam page with credits for everyone who built it.
